Joyce A. Buell, 87, of Clinton, formerly of Schuyler Lake, passed away on Monday, March 18, 2024 at The Pines at Utica Center. She was born in Cooperstown on April 28, 1936, a daughter of the late Fayette Allen and Jeanette (Thompson) Washburn. She attended Schuyler Lake School and graduated from Richfield Springs High School. On July 29, 1951, Joyce was united in marriage to Charles L. Buell in Schuyler Lake. He predeceased her on June 16, 2012.
Joyce had worked for Otsego County Department of Social Services, before moving to Clinton in 1986 and working for the Oneida County Department of Social Services as an examiner until her retirement. She was a former member of the Universalist Church (Old Stone Church) in Schuyler Lake, the Schuyler Lake Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and she was a collector of ceramic teapots.
She is survived by her children; Gloria Williamson, of Lake Oswego, OR., Dale and Susan Buell, of Holland Patent, Valeria and Allan Fassett, of Apopka, FL., Scott and Grace Buell, of Novato, CA., Patti Hill of Visala, CA., a sister Deborah Petkewec, of Richfield Springs, 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a great-grandson, Elias, and a son-in-law, Ronald Williamson.
In keeping with Joyce’s wishes, services and interment in Schuyler Lake Cemetery will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in her memory to H.A.L.O. (Helping Animals Live Organization) at 615 Albany Street, Little Falls, NY 13365 or online at halorescue.net. She had a deep love for her cats and supporting H.A.L.O. would honor her passion for caring for animals in need.
